πŸš€ The Ultimate Leftover Challah French Toast

(With Fluffy Whipped Cream Cheese Cloud)

What’s better than fresh challah? Challah that has been soaked in sweet custard, fried in pooling butter, and baked to pillowy perfection. If you have half a loaf of my challah sitting around, this is its highest calling. Its airy texture is literally built to absorb custard like a sponge.

πŸ›’ The Lineup

The Fluffy Cream Cheese Cloud

  • 8 oz cream cheese

  • 4 tbsp powdered sugar

  • 3 to 4 tbsp heavy cream

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 pinch of salt

The Custard & Carbs

  • 1/2 loaf thick-sliced House of Challah AZ bread

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1/2 cup milk (or heavy cream if you're living large)

  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar

  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg

  • 2 tbsp butter (for the skillet)

πŸ‘©β€πŸ³ The Game Plan

Step 1: Whip the Cloud (Do This First!)

  1. Toss your cream cheese, powdered sugar, heavy cream, vanilla, and salt into a bowl.

  2. Whip it with a mixer on high for 2 to 3 minutes until it is impossibly light, fluffy, and cloud-like.

  3. Set it aside so it's ready for its big moment. [1]

Step 2: The Pre-Game & Soak

  1. Kick things off by preheating your oven to 350Β°F.

  2. Grab a flat pan (like a pie dish or rimmed baking sheet) and whisk together your eggs, milk/cream, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg until smooth.

  3. Lay your thick challah slices directly into that glorious custardy bath.

  4. Let them hang out for 2 minutes per side so they absorb every single drop of flavor.

Step 3: The Sizzle & Bake

  1. Melt 2 tbsp of butter in a skillet over medium heat until it's happy and bubbling.

  2. Fry your soaked challah slices until they hit a gorgeous, caramelized golden brown on both sides, flipping halfway.

  3. As the slices finish frying, move them over to a baking sheet and pop them in the oven for 5 minutes to finish cooking through while you fry the rest. [1, 2]

Step 4: Plate & Devour

  1. Stack your piping hot challah French toast on a plate.

  2. Smother it with a massive dollop (or three) of that whipped cream cheese mixture you made in Step 1.

  3. Drizzle generously with pure maple syrup.

  4. Take a photo, tag me, and dig in! πŸ™Œ
